Client Desktop Installation

OVERVIEW: This guide provides the steps required to install VimBiz on a client desktop . See “Workstation Connectivity to Server” to configure the VimBiz client to connect to the VimBiz server.

Installation Procedure

NOTE: Before installing VimBiz on a desktop system, be sure all System Requirements have been met.

  1. Copy the VimBiz setup file to the desktop system or ensure network access to the file.
  2. Open VimBizSetup****.msi.
    It is recommended to run the file with administrative rights.
  3. Select the default folder for installation.
    With administrative rights to the machine, the .msi setup will allow the installation of VimBiz for anyone using the system. It is recommended to select the “Just me” option, which will allow VimBiz to perform updates without requiring administrative privileges.
  4. Follow the rest of the VimBiz installation instructions
  5. Click the Close button after installation has completed.

Verifying Installation

Verify the VimBiz installation by double-clicking on the VimBiz desktop shortcut. Alternatively, click Windows Start > Programs > Vimsoft and then click VimBiz. Opening VimBiz for the first time will display three options:

  • Install VimBiz Database on this computer. (Recommended)
  • Install VimBiz Database on an existing MS-SQL server. (Advanced)
  • Connect to an existing VimBiz Database. (Adding Clients)
  1. For desktop installation, select the Recommended option and click Next.
  2. It is good practice to create a local VimBiz database where users can test VimBiz without modifying the production database.
  3. Fill in the administrator information form to complete the setup.
    A local VimBiz database requires an administrator account,
  4. At the Login screen, make sure the Demo database is selected, and log in using Windows Authentication OR by using the administrator username and password just created.
  5. If VimBiz has been purchased, enter the License Key, otherwise, click on Register Later.
  6. The Demo database is filled with demo data, to verify that VimBiz installed correctly, open the product catalog (Start > Catalog > Manage > Product Catalog), and click the search button. Information should appear in the All tab.
